I’ve been watching this one for a while and I’m desperately hoping this will be to Spider-man as Arkham Asylum was to Batman (freaking awesome!).
I’ve played around a bit with some Horde characters in the past, struggling to get to level 20. I’ve got a Shaman that has been going ok but has recently stalled at 36 and have just got a Blood Elf Death Knight out of the starting area.
There is one thing that constantly holds me back from putting any decent time into a Horde character though and that’s a decent guild. The Barthilas guild has been a massive success, far beyond what I thought was possible, so it’s hard to wander around by myself on Nagrand.
My Shaman has been in three guilds on Nagrand so far, all of which have been terrible. It seems to me a lot of people on Nagrand have caps-lock issues. Read the rest of this entry »
So, I finally got around to doing my first official blog, hopefully it makes sense to all you lads and ladesses out there! So I thought being the Starcraft II blogger, I’d star of with something near and dear to me, how to play my favourite race, Terran!
Terran are by far the most defensively capable of all the races, which has its definite benefits, and some weaknesses. Throughout this guide, I plan on taking you through the common weaknesses and strengths that can be found within the Terran race, and how to counter them.
This week we have come to the end of an era in the Pirates raid group. Two of our original team members are heading off on a holiday that ends in Canada, their new country of residence. Nazaniel is the original Holy Paladin, being the tank healer right from day one, even to the point of deliberately going without a dual-spec for a long time so that she wouldn’t be asked to attempt another role. Likewise, Rampduck has been our original main tank and also refused to put too much energy in to any other specific specialty, playing with some kitty dps, then pvp resto and now some moonkin’ing, cementing his tanking role. Both Nazaniel and Rampduck were critical to formation of the group and the guild, not to mention almost every progression kill that Pirates had thereafter and came from a strong raiding background, Nazaniel from Vanilla WoW and both of them raiding with <Obsolete> throughout BC.
This weekend was their final raid week with the Pirates before packing and heading abroad. With both Naz and Ramp given the control stick to see out their raiding with the Pirates however they wished, it was one last clear of ICC10 that they decided upon, but with alts. I cant say much for the first night as both myself and Serevok were busy stuffing ourselves at a buffet for our Dad’s birthday, but it must have been pretty good given that they cleared eleven out of the twelve bosses.

I know, I know – I’m supposed to be writing about LOTRO now. But Ramp and I are in the process of moving overseas (we’re moving to Toronto, Canada, via the Trans-Mongolian Railway), so in the flurry of packing everything we own into boxes or bags, I haven’t had any time for Middle Earth. I have, however, been arranging my entertainment for the trip, which I thought y’all might be interested in.

I am a big traveller – I’ve been out of the country every year since I graduated, and I’ve been to some fantastic places and done some brilliant things. But the thing about travel is, for every great moment there are at least three (probably more) boring ones. Waiting for planes, trains and buses, travelling on them, hanging around in the hostel or hotel at night – there are plenty of times when the country you’re visiting can’t entertain you.
Meet my Nintendo DS. We’ve travelled around the world together – he doesn’t get any love while we’re at home, but as soon as it’s time to head off, he’s always spoiled with new games.
This trip, I’m looking for a couple of new games to supplement the Super Mario and Pokemon staples that I always take (Pokemon is hands-down the best time wasting game ever). Because I only buy new games when I travel, I tend to miss a lot of games, so I take the opportunity to troll the review sites for weeks in advance, hunting for what I’ve missed. This trip, there are two new games and two fairly old ones that have made my list. Read the rest of this entry »
MMORPG. Massive Multiplayer Online Role Playing Game. World of Warcraft is king of the MMORPG but it seems to be there is a vital part of the genre missing there – where’s the RPG?
An RPG is about putting you in the shoes of someone else and you play that role but it’s an area that WoW, and the vast majority of MMOs, fail at. Fail hard. The defining characteristics of an RPG are making decisions that effect you and the world around you. In WoW we get talents but that’s all. And, really, talents are pretty much the same as choosing a class. Pick your spec and then find the cookie cutter spec to go with it.
It’s time WoW started to take some hints from the big boys of the RPG world – Bioware. It’s time to give us choices that effect the way characters interact with us, that have long ranging consequences, that actually mean something. And I’m not talking about pick the faction that might give you a mount over the faction that might let you change form and then switching once you’ve got the reward you want anyway. 5-1
Before we jump into my top five, I’m going to show you one clip that I was going to put in – was looking at being number two – until I watched it again. It’s the opening scene for Mechwarrior 2. At the game this was mind blowing. I remember watching it ever time I loaded up the game. Having watched it again for this blog I can see that is has not aged well at all and there is no way it can compare to current and recent CGI. It was still awesome at the time though.
Notable Mention: Mechwarrior 2
10-6
I am a massive fan of gaming cinematics. Seeing the characters and worlds we love so much in beautifully rendered motion is a pure joy. Over today and tomorrow we’ll post the top 10 cinematics. A word before we jump in. You’ll note these are almost all from very recently released games or upcoming games. There was a cinematic that jumped into my mind immediately when I started this but, upon looking at it, it just doesn’t rate. Technology moves so fast that the old is left behind so quickly.
Also, this is extremely subjective. Feel free to criticize or, better yet, link your own.
10. Dues Ex: Human Revolution
The original Dues Ex was one of the biggest games of the decade. It’s been a long time between drinks and that helps the excitement level for this game. The music plays a big part in it too, a fantastic score.
MOAR WARHAMMER! The first playable race has been announce and (insert shock here) it’s the Imperium of Man. Nothing much in the trailer but maybe a few class hints with Tech Priests getting a mention. Jury is still way out on this game, but it’s a start.
This month marks a year since Pirates began our long road to ICC, so I thought we’d have a quick look at the story so far.
Just over a year ago I was Guild Leader of the 25s raiding guild Obsolete. I was a prick. Be it because I was burnt out, frustrated, felt unsupported, whatever, I’d turned from peace-maker to rager, so I gave it up. I wanted, desperately, to see the content still though. Without raiding I couldn’t see myself playing WoW at all. For me, that’s what the game is all about.
So I had a chat with my brother, Nasi, about maybe raiding 10s. He’d never been able to raid due to the commitment of four nights a week and I know my relationship had certainly suffered under it, so we headed down the path of two nights a week raiding. We wanted to get the value out of those two nights though, so we wanted to recruit some classy players. Read the rest of this entry »
