Guild Drinks tonight!

Posted by Vok On Saturday, March 20, 2010 Unreal Realities News

After many, many months, Guild Drinks is finally here for Unreal Realities. Tonight, people that have never met, that have travelled from all around the country, will be sharing drinks in Adelaide and, hopefully, breaking down the barriers between online friends and just plain old friends.

I’m extremely excited and more than a little nervous. Some of the people coming I know extremely well, others more passingly, in an online world. I have perceptions of what they will be like as no doubt they have expectations of what I am like. What if a friendship formed online cannot survive in the real world? What if we don’t like each other outside of WoW? What if a healer gets drunk and bangs a tank?? (Well, Naz and Ramp are coming, so that’s pretty likely I guess). Read the rest of this entry »

This week was not good for the Pirates. Wednesday night was called because of quite a lot of real life getting in the way, Sunday night still not getting Sindragosa down and, worst of all, Isla leaving the group, indefinitely.

Isla, who is our resident Resto Druid, has decided to call it quits with the Pirates. Several frustrating wipes on Sindragosa, a feeling of being behind the group in terms of progression, missing some of our big kills and some pretty hefty real life commitments (she’s a Doctor for crying out loud!) were the reasons cited. This is, sincerely, a huge loss for our group. Being one of the first members of the group to come from outside the Guild (Obsolete at the time), quite often Isla would Read the rest of this entry »

A-hoy!

Pirates-inspirationalThe votes are in and Kobsolete is no more – the ten-man group is now known as The Pirates.  Alive and Decimate ran a close second and third but Reebz seems to have struck a chord with his suggestion of teams called Pirates and Ninjas.  Seems there is a bit of Obsolete left in a lot of us still.

And so, as promised, one super awesome Pandaren Monk heading to Reebz for suggesting the winning name. Ironic that we’re naming ourselves Pirates and tis a ninja for a reward…

The horde is upon us

As I’m sure you are by now aware, Unreal Realities the Barthilas Guild went live on Sunday.  So far it hasn’t gone exactly as expected to be honest.  I was hoping that the ten man group would come over and then a few friends/family would join. I was hoping to get 15 or so players in the guild and slowly build it up.

A day and a half after launch, we’ve got 46 unique players in the guild. 46! And the biggest shock is, so far, everyone seems to be getting along! Not to mention; old friends that have suddenly reappeared, joining Unreal Realities on opening day.

So, my plans to slowly build up the guild have gone completely out the window and we have not even started getting serious about what we are going to do with the guild.  At the moment we only have the ten man group running, but we are hoping to add a 25-man wing, a second 10-man wing and I wouldn’t mind having a semi-serious crack at PvP, which I’ve never done.

Giving stuff away

Posted by Vok On Monday, November 9, 2009 Unreal Realities, Unreal Realities News

Now that Kobsolete has broken away from Obsolete, it seems it’s time for a new name.  While we still love Kob, and have no issues with Obsolete, we need to find our own identity. What does this have to do with you? Well, we need ideas. And there will be an in game WoW item (sorry to our readers that don’t play wow) up for grabs for the person that comes up with our new name.

How to enter?  Suggest our new name either as a comment here, in our forums or email Unrealrealities@hotmail.com. The 10-man group will vote on the name and once we’ve decided the person that came up with it will get something nice and shiny!

Get cracking!

It happened on the weekend.

A few unassuming Hobbits, a Dwarf and a few Elves and Humans have now formed the Unreal Realities Kinship in LotRO.

So, Vok and I have been playing, and loving, LotRO for a few months now and have hopefully dragged a few along with us. Ascian, is the first official Kin member, with Nasi and Arcanium also stumbling in for a peek.

If you are looking to try a second MMO to complement WoW or to change your addiction of choice, we both highly recommend you check out Middle Earth. Unlike some MMOs, LotRO isn’t a mad rush to reach end game, rather itis been a nice stroll for the most part and surprisingly has been easy to pick up/put down. The lack of ‘I must log in and do the following things before I can do anything else’ is refreshing, though the ‘I must do one more quest’ feeling might grab you. Hopefully though, its for the same reasons as us: to check out the next part of the story, or to see an NPC, landmark, or area you have particularly been waiting to come accross (I was very excited to complete a class quest on Weathertop recently). Suffice to say we hope to see you there.

The Kinship. Well, so far we are a level two Kinship – and we only get better with age. Its designed to be a positive gaming experience where we can learn the game and our new roles together. Specifically what the future holds for the Kinship we don’t know yet, its about the journey and we’re always looking to share it with other like-minded players.

So, if you ever feel the urge for a new Epic Quest line, check us out on the Elendilmir server.

Bloggin’ about the blog

A longer chat about the blog today, so if you’re not really interested in reading a big blog about a blog, the condensed version: people like us, new author, new site coming, cheers to some people, a drak dirty secret, end…

If you’re still reading this, it’s been a pretty good month for Unreal Realities.  While I am not the type who needs his ego stroked on a regular basis, positive feedback is always nice, and tends to spur me to work harder.

So, first off, we got a pretty big plug on Shut Up We’re Talking – a great Podcast I’ve been subscribed to ever since I knew what a Podcast was.  This week  the host, Darren, mentioned Unreal Realities as blog of the week.  To say I was pretty chuffed is like saying World of Warcraft has been mildly successful.  We’ve also made the blog rolls of Kill Ten Rat and Proudly Gnomish, so word is slowly getting out there.

We’ll be welcoming our sixth author to the blog in the next week or two.  The legendary Reebz will be blogging about his new found obsession, Hero of Newerth.  Reebz has been in and out of WoW for some time and is a theory crafting nut.  He will be an extremely valuable member of the team, welcome aboard mate.

We are currently working hard on a new site and its starting to look good.  It’s still a few weeks away from live launch – what with work, blogging and raiding all getting in the way – but it’s going to be worth the wait.  A huge shout-out to Reassurance and Starchasers for their help so far, I owe rather a large debt to you both.

While we’re on-shout outs, just a couple more quick ones.  Maiketh again, for the banner and the future one.  Voach at Proudly Gnomish, your blog was quite inspirational.  The guys at Shut up We’re Talking and Brent at Virgin Worlds – both really helped draw me into the MMO space.  The girls at Hots and Dot, firstly for being the first bloggers to comment on our blog, and secondly for writing one of the best blogs on the web!  Finally, a shout out to the half a dozen people who have contacted me in-game about the blog.  Your encouragement is gratefully accepted and appreciated.

Finally, Unreal Realities dark secret. . . . .

Twitter.  I’m happy to admit that I hate Twitter with a passion, but in an effort to keep growing readership, we’re up and running. I also know pretty much nothing about twitter, but the user name is Unrealrealities – so if you’re interested, I hope that helps. Now, let us never speak of this again.

Ok, so that’s about all for now.  I’ll see you all in-game!
